BELUGA THE SUPER TRANSPORTER The famous Beluga is officially called the A300-600ST-'ST' for Super Transporter. It gained its name from its resemblance to a white whale called a Beluga and its official designation ahs rarely been used since. The aircraft was designed specifically to replace the Super Guppies Airbus used from its beginning to transport sections of aircraft to the Airbus final assembly lines in Toulouse and Hamburg. Construction of the first aircraft began in 1992 and the first flight took place in 1994, following certification the first aircraft entered into service with Airbus Transport International in 1995. The design is based on the A300-600; the wings, GE CF6-80 engines, and the lower part of the fuselage were retained. AIR TRANSPORT ROLE In an all-cargo transport role, the maximum non-fuel payload is 37t. For the troop transport role, the aircraft can provide up to 214 seats. In a combined cargo/troop transport, 12 pallets and 54 troops can be carried. The air craft has four separate cargo compartments. The large main deck compartment is loaded though a wide door on the forward left side of the fuselage. The door can be opened to the vertical position to allow loading by crane. The other three cargo compartment are below deck. The aircraft can carry containerized and palletized loads with a pallet height up to 96in. Containers and pallets are moved by an electrically powered drive system and are locked manually. A310 Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) The A310 Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) is a tanker/transport aircraft derived from the Airbus A310 aircraft. The concept of the MRTT evolved from the modern requirement for a multi role aircraft capable of  fulfilling a variety of mission requirements, from its primary role of air-to-air refueling to a wide range of missions, for example passenger and/or cargo transport, or medical evacuation. The A300/A310 Family aircraft has a 222-inch fuselage cross section which provides an optimum balance between aerodynamics, structural efficiency and a combination of spacious cabin and cargo hold capability.
